Texas child support calculator
Texas sets child support as a percentage of the paying parent's monthly net resources: 20% for one child, rising by 5 points for each extra child to 40% for five or more, applied to net resources up to $11,700 a month.

How Texas child support is calculated
- Work out net resources. Start from gross monthly income and subtract Social Security (6.2%), Medicare (1.45%) and federal income tax figured as a single person with the standard deduction. The Attorney General's 2026 tax charts do this for wages; our calculator follows the same method.
- Apply the cap. The guideline percentages apply to net resources up to $11,700 a month (effective September 1, 2025). A court can order more above that, based on the child's needs.
- Apply the percentage for the number of children, from the table below.
Guideline percentages (paying parent supports no other children)
| Children | Net resources $1,000 a month or more | Below $1,000 |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 20.00% | 15.00% |
| 2 | 25.00% | 20.00% |
| 3 | 30.00% | 25.00% |
| 4 | 35.00% | 30.00% |
| 5 | 40.00% | 35.00% |
| 6 | 40.00% | 35.00% |
| 7 | 40.00% | 35.00% |
If the paying parent also supports children in another household, the percentages are lower (Texas Family Code §154.129). The calculator applies those tables when you enter other children.
What the calculator does not include
- Health and dental insurance for the child, which Texas orders separately as medical and dental support.
- Self-employment income and other adjustments, which need the full worksheet. The Attorney General's chart says it should not be used for owners of pass-through businesses.
- Reasons a court can depart from the guideline, such as extraordinary expenses.
